Tell It Like It’s Yours: How Organizations Break Through the Noise

Most organizations aren’t invisible because they have nothing to say. They’re invisible because they’re saying the wrong things — or saying the right things in the wrong way.

Growing up, I spent my summers, winters, and just about any opportunity I had camping with friends, my scout troop, or family. Almost all of these adventures had one thing in common: we’d end the night telling stories around the fire.

From childhood all the way to adulthood—dodging smoke and laughing with others, I learned something that’s shaped everything I do. The best stories weren’t the loudest or the longest. They were the most authentic to the person telling them. The ones where the storyteller knew exactly who they were and what made their experience worth sharing. That’s what kept people leaning in, staying up past midnight, asking for one more.

It’s where I learned that knowing who you are isn’t enough. You have to be able to tell it—the story of where you’ve been, where you’re going, and what makes you you.

Most organizations never learn that lesson.

Walk through any industry conference, scroll through any sector’s social feeds, and you’ll see it: stock photos, mission statements about “excellence” and “opportunity,” taglines that could belong to anyone. The problem isn’t effort. It’s invisibility through imitation. When you try to sound like everyone else, you stop sounding like yourself and you stop resonating with anyone.

The organizations that break through aren’t the ones with the biggest budgets. They’re the ones brave enough to own their story and tell it first, loudest, and best.

At Drive, we’ve built our entire practice around helping clients do exactly that—through creative content, strategic communications, and precision advertising that puts the right message in front of the right people.

Here are the three principles we use.

1. The people are the story — tell theirs

Every organization has an institutional story: the history, the mission, the founding principles. What makes people truly care is the human story. The people who are living proof of what your organization actually is.

CLIENT STORY
Congressional Management Foundation

CMF had a long history as a research think tank doing important work — but not a story that made people lean in. We helped them reframe. Instead of leading with the institution, we led with the people: the staffers and Members who show up every day to actually get things done.

Through authentic storytelling and targeted digital content, we built their online presence around the community they were creating through their programming, not just the guidebooks and training materials. The result was a growing, engaged community that shows up because they see themselves in the story.

2. Tell it before someone else does

Trust in traditional media has collapsed. Everyone’s a content creator. In that environment, you don’t get to decide whether your story gets told. You only get to decide whether you’re the one telling it.

If you don’t own your narrative, someone else will — a disgruntled commenter, a ranking algorithm, a competitor. The organizations that win are the ones that get proactive, not reactive.

CLIENT STORY
Public Lands Council

PLC represents cattle and sheep producers holding over 22,000 federal grazing permits across the western U.S. Their members didn’t always know what leadership was doing in Washington. Congressional staff didn’t have a clear picture of the issues. That’s a narrative vacuum. Drive helped PLC fill it first: board member interviews, B-roll of their team on the Hill, a video that showed what advocacy actually looks like in action.

3. Be your own media company

Your website, your social channels, your email list, your video content are the newsroom you should be producing for. You cannot wait for a reporter to discover you. You have to build the infrastructure to tell your story consistently, at scale, to the right audiences.

CLIENT STORY
AXPC – Longer Laterals Podcast Launch

AXPC didn’t need another op-ed pitch to hope that the energy press would cover their side of the story. They needed to own the conversation directly — so Drive helped them launch Longer Laterals, a podcast that puts AXPC in front of the industry, on their terms, with no one standing in between. Drive produces the podcast and runs the social distribution behind it — treating every episode like a newsroom treats a story: clipped, distributed, and pushed across every channel AXPC owns.

  • 1M+ impressions in the following month
  • 46,000%+ increase in Facebook video reach
  • 11,140 video views, up 113% from the previous month

AXPC didn’t wait to be covered. They built the outlet.

Your story is already there. We’ll help you tell it.
